This course is suitable for care workers that are responsible for assisting and supporting service users in personal care duties whilst promoting privacy and dignity in a safe and hygienic environment

Course Content

Personal needs and preferences of a service user

• Personal care needs, preferences and beliefs of a service user
• Varying levels and types of support
• Importance of privacy and dignity

Safe personal care

• Hygiene and safety precautions
• Minimising the risk of infection
• Reporting safety and hygiene concerns
• Summoning help when working alone
• Safe disposal of waste materials

Toileting

• Respecting dignity
• Personal hygiene after use of the toilet

Personal Hygiene

• Suitable and safe room and water temperatures for washing, bathing and mouth care
• Access to toiletries, materials and equipment

Personal Appearance

• Promoting active participation in managing personal appearance
• Care of clothing and personal care items

Monitoring and reporting

• Importance of feedback
• Monitoring of personal care functions and activities in agreed ways
• Recording and reporting on personal care in agreed ways

Course Duration

4 hours

A Certificate of attendance will be awarded on completion of the course.
